Originally a limited-edition drop, Milk Orchid instantly became our biggest launch to date. Now, it will permanently join our Scent Space Collection in March 2026 in new packaging.
For the upcoming launch of Milk Orchid Expressive, we wanted to bring our customers closer to the people behind the scent.
We spoke with both the Perfumer, Christelle Laprade of Symrise, and the Creative, Emma of Perfumerism, to explore the fragrance from two perspectives. The Maker shares insights into the formulation, while the Creative explores the narrative that shaped the scent.
This is Emma’s perspective.
Milk Orchid sold out globally in under 10 minutes. What was that like?
I thought it was a glitch. I was sitting down with my morning coffee, playing with my kitten, about to post that the fragrance had gone live on the Commodity site when the comments began flooding in that it was sold out. I thought that couldn’t be the case, as I had hardly even been able to announce that it was for sale yet.

How has your relationship with Milk Orchid changed since it first launched?
I’m so proud of Milk Orchid. It is my most complimented perfume and my signature scent that I wear almost daily. Everyone I love has a bottle and I shout it from the rooftops about how proud I am of it.
Before the launch, I was so nervous if it would be loved by people, but the response has been so overwhelmingly positive that I feel affirmed and reassured that we created something truly special.
How does the new packaging reflect the way you see this fragrance now?
I am so proud of the pink, pearlescent imagery we created on the original label. That imagery is exactly how I envision the scent of Milk Orchid, and I love that we have carried that over to the inside of the packaging for the Milk Orchid Expressive box.
What’s a lactonic note in Milk Orchid that especially stands out to you, and why?
The coconut is certainly one of the main notes in Milk Orchid. While coconut is traditionally seen in more beachy/sunscreen accords, I love how in this scent it brings more of a creamy, cocooning and ethereal milky feel.

If Milk Orchid Expressive were a place, time of day, or mood, what would it be?
1 p.m. in Santa Monica in April, walking along the pier. Warm and sunny, the perfect 75 degree day.
What other Commodity fragrances might you suggest layering with Milk Orchid and why?
Gold Expressive adds a pretty warmth for vanilla lovers, and Milk+ Bold would be a great layering combo to bring a smokiness for evening or wintertime.
You ignited the lactonic fragrance trend on TikTok and have reviewed dozens of milky scents. What do you see for the future of lactonic fragrances?
A lot of milky fragrances have been coming out. Most of them have been “pure” milk fragrances with a straightforward lactonic feel. Now that Milk Orchid, a milk-adjacent fragrance, has come out, perhaps we will see more floral milks around the corner.
Any hints of what you’re brainstorming for Milk Orchid Personal and Bold?
Not sure if I can say that just yet, but let me know if you have any thoughts! Stay tuned.
